Phillies Blog

This week they focused on a lot of injury reports. Saying that Brad Lidge and Joe Blanton (pitchers) feel they are ready to come back, Brad Lidge will be coming back Friday, Joe soon. Other then that same typical tweets from the Phils. Late inning heroics gave them the win on Wednesday was a big tweet, they almost got swept by the Giants but won in 11.

Social Media Blog

During/ After class my group met and decided what we were going to do, so I'll talk about that for this blog. We are doing a social media campaign for Best Buy. Focusing on their Greener Together campaign which s for recycling old electronics. We are going to do a YouTube Video and make a facebook. The logo for the Facebook will be the Best Buy pricetag logo turned green instead of yellow and instead of the words Best Buy it'll say Greener Together. I'll make that for the group in Photoshop.

Phillies Blog

The Phillies just tweeted this week about the new giant contract extension they made with Ryan Howard. Its a guaranteed 125 Million with an additional 5 years. Also the rest of their tweets were about just the final scores and recaps of their games. I guess the good thing about following them is they are guaranteed to post something every day because they play nearly every day, and they'll also post things about off field talk. I don't usually get all of their info off Twitter, I get it on my MLB at bat 2010 iPhone app, and facebook, but when I go to check Twitter for my blog, everything is identical anyway. I look at repeat information all day every day from them, so I always know the latest news.

Social Media Blog

When we talked about Google Analytics in class, I thought the concept of what it does is a great thing for any business to have. I think it is more useful for bigger businesses, ones that have websites that are frequently visited, because it's a great thing to know. Even for smaller businesses however, if they are lucky enough to have a decent website, because a lot of local smaller business don't, its good to know who is interested in you, and what people are looking for when they find you. I don't know if I'd be able to keep track of it for a business, too many numbers and I thought it was confusing, but I can see how it's a great invention.

Phillies Blog

Ever since I started to follow Best Buy on twitter for the group project, all of the Phillies posts are getting drowned out, Best buy posts stuff like every hour. Anyway. The Phillies have been mainly talking about three things. First, they recap every days game, who pitched, who did what, any big plays. Second they have been talking about a few players, Joe Blanton and Brad Lidge and their rehab in Reading and Lehigh Valley. They have also been talking about off field things, like Jamie Moyer helping kids in Haiti, and talks with younger players.

Social Media Blog

For this Social Media Blog, I just wanted to say how awesome it was what Dominos did with YouTube. Using Youtube to promote your business is smart, and thats one thing, but going out of your way to single out and satisfy a customer so everyone can see is another thing, and it is a great marketing scheme. Free advertising, happy customers, give yourself a good name. However as seen in the other Dominos video, Youtube can hurt you too, if something leaks that isn't suppose to, it can put your franchise under fire.

Phillies Blog

It started, finally... FINALLY. Game one was against the nationals. Halladay pitched, made his first debut. The Doc. He pitched a gem. It was 11-1, Ryan Howard had a homer, and Placido Polanco had a grand slam. The funny thing about this week is everything I talked about has been posted on Twitter, but I don't need Twitter to fill me in this week. I've been all Phillies all week. Game three is tonight

Social Media blog

After listening to the guest speaker last class, I found it to be a good look into how a business locally uses social media to actually get results. The most interesting thing was how it seems companies give jobs in running things like twitter and facebook, maybe that won't be the only thing you have to do at work, but it is a pretty fun thing to do at work. Also, as for the Weekender and Times Leader like we heard about in class, I think social media is a great addition because it is much faster and easier for customers to get when they can't get a physical copy of the publishment itself

Phillies Blog

Well as of this point in the year, basically everything the Phillies tweet is a recap of the last spring training game. I get the same 3 messages every day. One on twitter, one on facebook, and one on my iPhones MLB At Bat 2010 app. Without going into too much detail because there is so much talk amoungst them about how certain players are doing, the main topics have been about their pitching situation. How some pitchers are doing opposed to others and what the final rotation will be as of Opening Day. As of the news that has been tweeted, as a Phillies fan it is safe for me to assume the final rotation will be Halladay, Hamels, Blanton, Happ, and Kendrick

Phillies Blog, March 4th

Well Spring Training has starting and I'm pumped. All of the tweets have been about games and players. A few tweets were "Moyer Tosses three scoreless frames" and "Adjustments benefit Kendrick, Polanco".
That might not sound like anything interesting to you, but for me, I'm a huge Phils fan so thats the kind of stuff I want to know about. I mean if your going to follow the Phils, I think you should expect to read things like that. Especially this time of year. A few posts ago I think I said that it was the calm before the storm, well now the storm is starting to brew, nothing major, just some tweets about what we can expect. Then some April, I predic tweets like crazy.

Social Media Blog, conversation I had about YouTube

I had a conversation with somebody while at WBRE on my internship the other day, and I thought it was a good observation to share with you. I actually mentioned about this on my test, but I think it's true so I'll talk about it here.
While talking to somebody I am interning with in the commercial department of WBRE, we started talking about indy film making, since we are both interested in it. He was telling me about how production companies produce things but onlt with distribution, you have to do it all yourself, thats what happened to Rob Zombie with house of a thousand corpses. Well that got us talking about YouTube. YouTube is such a great thing, because now, when we are watching a video online (which is a great way to distribute your videos without needing that production company) we don't expect good quality. It makes us so anybody can make what ever they want without needing expensive equiptment. I just can't decide is this is a good thing or bad thing, or a little of both.

Phillies Blog

Well Spring training is about to begin, and all of the Phillies tweets are about progress and what exactly will be happening/who will be playing come spring training. For example some of the tweets were, "Sanchez is last left from Abreu trade" "Hamels adding curve, cutter to arsenal", and "Lidge, Romero continue progress". But the one tweet that was huge news was Roy Halladay would be starting the first spring training game against the Yankees. Arguably the two of the top pitchers in the league, facing off in spring training. This was a big tweet, stirring up a lot of talk in ESPN and making me go nuts because I couldn't wait for the game. From now on the season will start to me in swing, I can expect most of the tweets to be about the games itself.

Social Media Blog (Snow day week)

I wanted to mention in this blog about a website I stumbled upon with my friends when we were snowed in a few weeks back. We heard of a website, which I'm sure you all have heard of called chatroulette. It sounded awesome so we checked it out. Anybody that doesn't know what it is, it takes your webcam, and instantly links you up in a chat with a complete stranger, if your done talking/looking at them, click next, BAM you get somebody else.
We must have been on it for a few hours, it was addicting. Be warned, theres a lot of perverts as its not regulated, but put that aside, it's pretty cool. It's insane that you can look into somebodys life that can be in the same state, or around the world with the click of a mouse. Its totally worth checking out

Twitter Blog

This week, after following the Fightins on Twitter, not as much has been going on. A couple of news stories about boosting their bullpen, and the released that their ballpark isn't as hitter friendly as they are accused of.
As for what the Phillies are doing, its only a few days until the pitchers and catchers report, and they have been talking about their next young possible big pitching prospect Trevor May. Right now it seems to be the calm before the storm, not too much to talk about, and then next thing we know Spring Training.

Senior First Farwell class/Facebooke

Since I wasn't in class, and decided to go to the senior first farewell instead, I thought it would be relevant to this class by saying how the whole reason I found out about this event, was through a group made especially for it on Facebook. It was very clever of them to promote using Facebook, it gave an invitation and then link to the registration on the homepage. I'm not sure if other social medias were used, like Twitter, but the Facebook was sucessful in doing its job

Blog Week 1

I found it really interesting in exactly how complicated but yet useful twitter can be, especially for business or celebs. I mean It doesn't take much to follow somebody, and some people might follow as many people/things as they can, so it's a free way to reach so many people. The complicated and involved part that really intrigued me wasn't it being hard to use. Instead, all of the third party software to make it easier means it is really catching on, and it'll be around for a while longer. I'm more of a facebook fan myself, but there isn't a bunch of programs to make facebook easier. Just that those softwares exist means twitter is being taken very seriously within the social media community.

Feb 4th Phillies Blog

For the past week following the Phillies, I noticed a bunch of things are happening. And as the season nears, a lot more will be going on in their news. The most recent thing they have done was add a veteran outfield to their roster. Freddy Guzman. They have also added a veteran pitcher, Jose Contreras.
They haven't only been making baseball news with trades, however. Second basemen Chase Utley has been praised at a school for coming in and talking to children about reading. They have also hosted a film screening. The club has also hosted the signing of new third basemen Placido Polanco in which Phillies fans were said to come out in "droves" to. As the weeks get closer to Spring, there will continue to be a lot of activity within the ball club.

First Post on the business I'm following

For my business to follow, I chose the Philadelphia Phillies. This time of year thats basically what I'm into the most anyway. I just made twitter to follow them and I noticed I am reading the same notifications I have been reading on my iPhone's At Bat app, MLB.com, and facebook anyway, so I have found the right link to the actual Phillies, not just some fan posting. After reading these tweets right now they have been negotiating contracts with two of my favorite players, Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz. They have given Joe Blanton a 24 Million Dollar extension and are working on Shane and Carlos. This is going to be a good company to follow, espcially this time of the year because of the deals and negotiations being done.
